The move sparked a fierce backlash from Democrats in Congress who said it would hurt U.S.-Israel relations.
WASHINGTON – Earlier this week, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg met “Saturday Night Live” comedian Kate McKinnon, who has famously portrayed the justice on the comedy sketch show for the past several years.
The two separately attended an off-Broadway performance of “Fiddler on the Roof” on Tuesday evening and were introduced after the show, according to social media posts.
Nick Raynor, an actor in the play, told People Magazine that McKinnon “was star struck.”
In avideo recorded by Raynor, McKinnon is seen speaking with Ginsburg and then screaming out of what seems like excitement after walking away from the justice, who has become a pop culture icon in recent years.
Joel Grey, the director of the all-Yiddish production, told People that he was happy the two attended his show.
“These two incredible women — it could not have made me happier,” Grey said, adding that Ginsburg “was generous and sweet. The audience went crazy for her.”
Ginsburg has previously said she likes McKinnon’s portrayal of her.
“I like the actress who portrayed me. And I would like to say ‘Gins-burn’ sometimes to my colleagues,” she said at a Sundance “Cinema Talks” conversation last year.
